My MBTI Results

My MBTI Results
By: Brian Seda
There are a number of things that I can take away from my MBTI results. Knowing these results will help me to become a better student at Iowa State. I found out that my style is ESTP. These four letters stand for extraversion, sensing, thinking, and perceiving. This is information can helped me learn what types of learning styles will benefit me.
There are a few things that surprised me about my MBTI results. I was very surprised that I take in information by sensing and not intuition. This means that I focus on the here and now and I don’t take in information by seeing patterns or the big picture. This is useful information because it means that I may need to plan out when to do my homework and work on big projects. I know that I am very bad at leaving things to the last minute, so I now know that it is important for me to see the big picture and plan things out.
These results definitely make me more aware of areas that I may need to work on. I know that I need to be more intuitive and plan out my projects and studying more than I do now. This means that I can now try to improve in these areas and by doing this it will help me achieve good grades here at ISU. Another area that I need to improve on is being more organized when it comes to studying for tests. I need to start writing the main points after I read a chapter to help me study when it comes to the test. If I can improve on this I feel that I could get a better grade on tests.
These results can definitely help me achieve my goals while here at Iowa State. I am week in areas such as Intuition and Judging. By knowing my weaknesses it will help me to improve in these areas and improve my overall grades. The MBTI survey was a very helpful tool to learning more about my personality. Hopefully I can achieve my goal of having a 3.25 GPA in my first semester of college.
Overall I found it very rewarding to learn more about my personality. The MBTI survey helped me learn more about how I think and make decisions. It also helped to show me my weaknesses and got me to think about how I can improve on these areas. I think that new incoming Hixson scholars would also benefit greatly by taking the MBTI survey.

My Goals/Bucket List

My Goals/Bucket List
By: Brian Seda

There are a number of long-term goals that I have in my lifetime. If I had to narrow down my long-term goals to three main goals they would be to buy a home, obtain my dream job, and to start a family. My fist goal of buying a home has always been one of my long-term goals. Hopefully I am able to buy my first home before I am 30 years old. I have always wanted to be able to maintain and care for a home that I can call my own. My second long-term goal is to obtain my dream job. My dream job is to work for either the St. Louis Cardinals or the Green Bay Packers. I would like to obtain this job by the time I am 25 years old. I would like to work in the management department of one of these sports teams. My last long-term goal is to start a family. I know that this is a very cheesy goal, but I think that having kids would be great. I would love to be able to have a family that is as close as my family is now. I think that family is one of the most important things in the world.
My one goal that is extremely important to me here in college is how I can obtain my dream job. My three goals that would go under my main goal of obtaining my dream job would be to graduate with a 3.25 GPA or higher, set up a summer internship at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, and to graduate in 4 years from college. I can obtain these goals by working hard and trying to get the very best grades possible in my classes. It is also important that I am involved in things outside of the classroom. I am currently a member of the baseball club and I am already on two intermural teams.
I have three short-term goals here in college. My first short-term goal is to have a GPA above 3.25 in my first semester of college. I can achieve this goal by working hard on my homework and being well prepared for all of my quizzes and exams. My second short-term goal is to make the spring baseball team. I can achieve this goal by playing my very best in the fall games and by putting in extra work in the batting cage and field. My last short-term goal is to get an A in my Sociology 134 class. I can achieve this goal by adequately studying for my exams and by taking good notes. I feel that if I can achieve these three short-term goals it will help be obtain my long-term goals as well.
There are a number of things that I would like to do before I die. The first thing that I would like to do before I die is to go to Hawaii and learn how to surf. I feel that this would be a very fun and exciting trip. Next I would like to visit all of the major league baseball parks. It would be fun to see all of the venues and visit all of the different cities that major league teams play in. Another thing on my bucket list is to go to all of the home football and basketball games in my four years here at Iowa State. The last thing on my bucket list is to graduate with a degree in management and a minor in sports recreation from Iowa State.
I have a variety of goals and different things on my bucket list that I would like to achieve. I know that I will have to work extremely hard to accomplish all of these things. Iowa State is my first step towards achieving these goals and dreams. Iowa State will provide me with the education needed to reach my life goals and dreams.

A Time That I Was at My Best

A Time That I Was at My Best
By: Brian Seda

This summer I feel like it was a time that I was truly at my best. I played baseball for the North Tama Redhawks and we made it to the state tournament in Des Moines, Iowa for the first time since 2003. The whole year we were considered to be a very average team. I knew that we had the potential to become a great team and towards the end of the year we did just that.
I feel that I was truly at my best when we entered the tournament. I knew that it was important for me to  play first base to the best of my ability. I was one of only four seniors on the team, so I knew that it was important to be a leader on our team. Our first game was against GMG and we were favored to win pretty easily. It was a very tough first round game but we ended up winning 3-2.
The next round game was against Don Bosco and we were not expected to win. We played an extremely good game with no errors at all. This game I was at my best by scooping a couple of the balls that were in the dirt at first base. We ended up winning the game 1-0 and we advanced to take on Gladbrook-Reinbeck in the district final.
This game was probably the toughest game in the tournament for us. We got down 3-1 and this was the first time in the tournament that we had trailed in a game. This game I was at my best by not allowing our team to give up hope and we continued to battle at the plate and on defense. As a team we battled back and tied the game up at 3-3. Then in the top of the seventh inning we took the lead 4-3 and we went on to win the game 4-3. We were district champions and we were headed to the sub-state final to take on BGM.
The whole tournament we were the underdogs and this game was no different. BGM was ranked seventh in the state and the had a record of 26-3. On the other hand we were 20-12 and we were not ranked. This game I was at my best by going 1-3 with a single and a run batted in. We ended up pulling off the major upset 7-2. We advanced to the state tournament for the sixth time in school history and the first time since 2003. We were the number eight seed in the tournament and we lost to the number one seed Bishop-Garrigan Algona 3-1.
I feel that the whole baseball season I was at my best by being a senior leader on the team. Earlier on in the year we were 7-10 and struggling to find ways to win. I knew that I had to step up and let the guys know that we could become a great team. We ended up having a record of 21-13 and ended the year going 14-3. I was at my best by being the leader in batting average, hits, home runs, and runs batted in on the team.
I feel that this feeling of being a great leader and being at my best will help me here at Iowa State. I know that if you keep working hard then you can have great success in whatever you pursue. I am going to transfer this feeling of being at my best at ISU by continuing to always try to get the best grades possible. I am going to keep working hard in the classroom here at Iowa State, so that I can be at my very best and pursue my life-long goals.
